How can your organisation nurture what you have, make change for the future and strengthen what matters most?
By ‘looking through the kaleidoscope’ it’s possible to understand and strengthen culture through organisational design.
Twiga Group has developed ‘Kaleidoscope’, a simple diagnostic model that helps consider the five connected components for working organisations to support complex problem solving and to accelerate cultural change.
Managing Director of Twiga Group Jo Smyth said this human-centred design model places people at the centre, enabling culture and change to be co-designed for engagement. Just like a kaleidoscope, depending on what you look at, depends on what you see. And this helps us to understand what matters most.
“Workplace cultures are complex – with many unknowns, interrelated elements, human behaviour and a drive for innovation. For change to happen, we must first understand the connected components for any organisation. They are:
-
- Purpose – why are we here? Who do we serve?
- Operating model – capabilities, systems, processes
- Organisational design – structure, control, management
- Roles and responsibilities – work, accountability, KPIs
- People and skills – mindset, leadership
All elements within workplace culture are interconnected, so if you change one thing, there is a cultural impact across everything.
“There is no ‘quick fix’. There is no short cut. The complexity of culture cannot be solved by any one model alone, but when we blend the Kaleidoscope with human-centred design, we take a more emergent approach which, we find, better supports complex problem solving.
Culture needs to be nurtured, with deliberate and considered leadership. When we take the time to understand the interconnected elements, we are well positioned to strengthen our culture for the future.
Business success comes from using design thinking for collaboration to achieve connected, high performing teams with strong levels of trust. The culture of an organisation can thrive on the quality of our conversations.
The Kaleidoscope model has been designed to help you understand the elements to focus on so that you can make real change to the work that matters most to your organisation.
